Kids Summer Windsurfing Camps

Summer time is exciting -
It's time for kids to windsurf!

Summer windsurfing camps are taught by us at the Clearwater Community Sailing Center near Clearwater Beach in Tampa Bay, Florida. These camps are 9-3 Mon-Fri. Typically there is a 2 ½ hour lesson then an hour lunch followed by another 2 ½ hour lesson. We have US Sailing certified windsurfing instructors teaching so the kids have a SAFE, FUN time windsurfing.

Later in the lesson, the kids will travel by boat to the island and go windsurfing there. Quite exciting for them!

You may sign-up with the Sailing Center. The cost is $250. The camps start on June 8th and continue weekly until Aug 14th. PFD's or life jackets are provided, however the kids may bring their own as well. Ages 8-16.

We require the kids to have the following:
  • Water shoes ($5-$10 dollars at Wal-Mart)
  • Waterproof Sunscreen lotion 15spf or higher
  • Kids snacks and drinks
  • Swimsuit and towel

North Beach Windsurfing Team:

At the Clearwater Community Sailing Center, there is a Youth Windsurfing Team. There are practices on Wed afternoons 3-6 and Sunday afternoons 1-5. You may check out some more information at www.teamusa-windsurfing.blogspot.com. We are looking for good kids who are willing to work hard. It is not necessary to be an expert windsurfer. We will provide the instruction for you to be a good windsurfer. All of the kids on the team have started here and are competitive now. In the beginning windsurfing gear is provided. One of the members was selected represent the US at ISAF Youth Worlds in Brazil, we travel to regattas in the state of FL, Nationally, and Internationally. Some of the kids are headed to the Gorge, Hood River OR as well as Weymouth UK for the Bic 293 Worlds. As time progresses, I would not be surprised to see some of these sailors on the US Sailing Team vying for Olympic berths.

This may look overwhelming however we pay attention to each youth sailor and are interested in teaching them how to race and more importantly to enjoy windsurfing. Kids learn quick and we have a great group of kids that exert positive peer pressure. I have seen great progress in these kids in their skills, maturity, focus, and enthusiasm.
